| Roger Hiorns: SEIZURE |
[Dec. 20th, 2009|08:52 pm] |
Model: Libby Hair & Light: Blaze Location: http://www.artangel.org.uk/projects/2008/seizure
Found this location by accident and my what a find. Introducing the beautiful spangle_kitten , together with Blaze, made our way to this council flat which has been ear-marked for demolition early Jan. Nothing can quite prepare one for the surprise when entering this strange world.
Seizure is a sort of sci-fi nightmare in Southwark, we tried to capture both the beauty of the crystals along with the madness of this art piece by Roger Hiorns.
Thanks to Blaze and SpangleKitten for braving the freezing cold to do this set.

| First corset |
[Dec. 20th, 2009|07:56 pm] |
|
As fashion student and corset lover, i've tried to combine these two and tried to make my first corset this summer.
Thanks to a dear friend who helped me a lot with her amazing advise and picture tutorials from internet for the busk.
This corset is made with 3 layers of fabric. The outerlayer is unkown, but has a tafeta binding. Inside is cotton coutil and for the softness crepê satin. There are 22 pieces of boning. At the back flatsteel and the others are spiral steel. Waistband inside, it has a back flap (not visible at the picture) and 2 pieces grommets. To cover a small mistake i've added lace on the front :)

[Dec. 20th, 2009|02:39 pm] |
greetings! just finished this corset. i went for a victorian bodice look, so most of the boning channels are hidden by the fashion layer. 54cm waist, spiral and spring steel boning, two-part grommets, 2 layers of coutil. (x-posted)

| Happy Holidays; see y'in the new year! |
[Dec. 20th, 2009|10:23 am] |
Hey everyone!
Just a quick little note to remind you all that I will be taking some time off from December 22nd-January 4th. I will be out of town for a chunk of it, but will be returning to work in the new year! Over the holidays and into the end of February, I will be taking what very well may be the LAST round of orders for the winter; custom orders will be finalized and processed no later than March/April. After that, I won't be taking orders again until September/October of 2010. Due to the nature of bridal, I may be accepting those orders throughout the year on a case-by-case scenario. Please inquire.
This wacky time juggling is to ensure everyone gets their corsets in a timely fashion and nobody is left straggling while I go on tour again; it's going to be a busy year and my summer tour is already starting to shape up with bookings. I want to make sure y'all are taken care of and nobody's waiting longer than the reasonable amount of time required for a custom corset (typically between 1-2 months).
Sounds good? Awesome!
Whatever holidays you may celebrate, have a happy one, with food, family, fun, and most of all er.. happiness. So much for the alliteration, but you get my point.
Happy Holidays, guys! |

I'm going to say upfront that I am the LEAST scientifically-minded person you'll ever meet. I never made it past basic biology in school and the idea of me trying something chemistry-related is well, laughable.
Having said that, I need some chemistry help! And please excuse any terminology errors I make, though you are free to snicker at my mistakes. :D
I'd like to make some wine charms for a friend who is very scientifically-minded. I thought of something he would get a kick out of, but I'm not sure how to make it a reality. I want to make wine charms that have the molecular formula for different... chemicals? in wine. A quick google search turned up this image of different wine molecules. It also turned up this charm, which is the "look" I'm going for. (I'm going to be using wire and beads for this project.)
So as a complete moron looking at those two images, I notice a few differences. The first image has areas where there are double lines, and some of the parts are O and some are HO or OH. (Is my ignorance giving you a headache yet?) The image of the necklace has balls in different areas and none of the lines are double. So I guess what I'm asking is, how do I turn the symbols in the first image into something more like the necklace charm, that can be replicated in simple wire and round beads? (For the record, I'm not attached to the specific molecules in the first image. Any molecules that are found in wine will do.)
If you are goodly enough to help me out, please act as if you are talking to a five-year-old and make your answers suitably simplistic. It would be amazingly fantastic if someone could just make a quick MS Paint image for me to go by, but I understand if that's too much trouble. Thanks for any help you can give! |

| Corinthia's |
[Dec. 19th, 2009|09:49 pm] |

Just wondering, have any of you ladies received any refunds/corsets back from Corinthia's? They said they were going to try to repay everyone by New Year's, though I haven't heard a peep from them since November 14th. |

| I've been shopping around for a new corset |
[Dec. 18th, 2009|04:23 pm] |
for a while now, but have been sadly disappointed for the most part. Either the person I want to do the corset is taking a (understandable) break, or I am disappointed in the construction quality of others. I am going to be looking for a custom made black underbust, but will need some help with integrating some ideas.
Any good corset makers to recommend? |

| L'escarpolette 22 black silk overbust for sale |
[Dec. 19th, 2009|02:14 pm] |
I purchased this corset from our lovely cnfessions two years ago, but never had the chance to wear it. The original sale (with her descriptions) can be found here, alongside additional pictures.
This is a black silk overbust, with coutil on the inside. The fashion fabric is silk satin. It's a very heavy, thick fabric, probably best suited for winter, fall, and well-air-conditioned rooms. It comes with a boned modesty panel in the same fabric, though it's detached and somewhat difficult to position. If you're handy, I'd recommend adding grommets (maybe) and running the lacings through it.
Bust: 32 (mine is a 34 and fits perfectly) Waist: 22 (closed measurement). The modesty panel is about 4 inches wide. Hips: 32 (high hip measurement--my high hip is a 29, and this fits with a bit of room to spare)
I would like $200, though I'm open to other offers. If you're within the US, I'll throw in free shipping. If you're outside the US, I will discount $10 off the actual shipping cost. (I purchased the corset for $300, which was already heavily discounted from the original price). It has been tried on twice--by cnfessions and by me, but neither of us actually wore it out. It is in perfect condition. Although it was supposed to be a custom order for cnfessions, I suspect that this was actually made as an OTR sample.
In addition to cnfessions 's description, my fitting notes might help you decide if this will fit you. I have a fairly large ribcage, which is a bit too compressed in this corset. If you are waist-trained, or have an average-to-narrow bust, this should work. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with a large and uncompressable bust. This is also a little long on me (I'm 5'1, for reference). While it can be worn without discomfort on someone my size, I suspect it would work best for someone 5'3 and up.
There is one difference from the picture. As you can tell, the top gaps slightly. mina_lafleur was kind enough to add a grommet at the dip of the sweetheart neckline, alongside a silk ribbon. Please contact me with any questions. I take payment only through paypal or a money order. |
